Clarisky x V.V Designer Challenge Part 2

It was been quite the busy little fashion city here in Vancouver over the past 2 months, which I regretfully haven't been able to fully take part of due to the cray cray that comes from full time work, school, and designing.  I have however enjoyed keeping up with the biz on all the social media platforms of my fashion comrades, I hope you do too!

In case you thought I have been totally slacking off I have the next episode of the Vous Valet Designer Challenge for you to take a peak at.

In this episode you get to stake out the competition take a look at each competitors' signature piece.  We have some serious talent in Vancouver, so click on the pic below to watch the episode and see for yourself.

Remember once the reveal has aired your votes will be needed to determine the winner, so stayed tuned.

In the meantime keep warm, stay fashionable, and enjoy all the wonderful fashion events that are popping up all over the city!

Clarisky Business x Vous Valet Designer Challenge

Now when I said I was a busy busy bee this fall I meant it, but don't be fooled I have not left the fashion world high and dry!  In fact I have been involved in a unique local fashion project that you are most definitely going to want to follow.

Elizabeth Savenkoff, owner of the designer consignment boutique Vous Valet in Yaletown, has put together an amazing opportunity for Vancouver Designers..... think Project Runway's upcycling episode + 5 young Vancouver designers.

Designers are given 60 seconds to grab previously loved clothing articles from the Vous Valet store and then challenged to design an outfit from the pieces they collected in 48 hours that incorporates their personal style and a theme from their randomly chosen "inspiration piece".  The winner gets a whack load of fabulous prizes including having their designs featured in Vous Valet.  My favourite part of the competition is that the Runner Ups get to donate their  creations to a charity of their choice to be worn by some very special ladies.

I almost forgot to mention  that the winner is chosen by viewer votes, so after the final episode is aired you must head on over to the Vous Valet facebook page to get voting!

The first episode is up for viewing now so click on the screen shot above to watch.  This episode gives you a little introduction to the designers that will be participating in the challenge.

Be sure to check back often for more episodes and to see our final creations revealed.. who knows maybe the very next Donatella will be discovered right in front of your eyes.

P.S. if you haven't yet checked out Vous Valet (1241 Hamilton) ummmmmm what are you waiting for??! we are talking Louis Vuitton, Louboutin, Chanel, etc. at amazingly discounted prices.

So go on and get watching and tell me what you think.  I'll be sure to let you know when the next episodes are up and ready for viewing.

me + FASHION magazine

With the days getting shorter, darker, and wetter and work and school creeping into my play time, there are few things that can pull me out of the doom of gloom of what looms ahead (midterms)....

...flipping through the latest  fashion magazines is one of those things that can offer me a short escape, but flipping through FASHION magazine and seeing yourself cropped beside some fabulously dressed ladies on pg. 80, can really give your mood a 180!!

The picture was taken during Fashion Night Out at the VIP Pre party at Secret Location in Gastown.  That evening I was wearing a FULL full skirted, wrap dress from All Saints that seemed to really catch peoples eye.

The November issue of FASHION is obviously pretty spectacular for me, but it is also a special edition in itself.  This month FASHION celebrates its 35th anniversary so go on and pick up a copy for yourself !

Fringe-ing it!

My sincere apologies to all of my readers for neglecting to post for a while.

Unfortunately my sewing machine has been replaced with homework, clutches with backpacks and, my schedule that was once crammed with glamourous fashion events now only houses projects and test.

Don't worry it's not all doom and gloom, amidst full time work and school I am still making time for the odd fashion event here and there and I still have some exciting projects coming up, but you will have to bare with me for the next little while.

For now I wanted to share an outfit post from a couple months ago.  I refrained from posting it because I thought I was bound to see this dress scattered all over the internet by other purchasers. The dress hasn't received as much attention as I thought, so I thought it was time to share my take on this fringe dress from h&m!

I think it's the perfect 'ode to a sunny October.....

....and the back is obviously right up my alley!

I love how the fringe is waaaaayyy to long, it just makes me want to burst out into my own rendition of "If I Could Turn Back Time" ...  cheers to you if you got the Cher reference!

Paired with some sky high Nine West Wedges and a gold necklace from Charlotte Russe there's no party I can't tackle!

What do you think of this dress? Could you find a way to rock and roll it?

Product of the Week - Shoelery

Happy Sunday everyone!

I'm currently still recovering from my Fashion's Night Out induced coma, but I wanted to make sure that I brought you a Product of the Week this week.

I recently was on a ferry to the island, and while perusing the gift shop I came across this fabulous find....

Shoelery - by Erica Giuliani

Before I became a shoe enthusiast, I was often found wearing my favourite plain black pumps. Although the black pump can be versatile in many situations, this great product would have really helped to amp up my classics to be something original.

They have absolutely everything from heel rings, to boot belts, to shoe clips, there is something for every shoe!

These heel chains are super fun and edgy, and the shoe clips can add a girly touch to your plain heels or flats.

I also really like these delicate boot belts because they add the perfect touch without going overboard.

All of the accessories are very reasonably priced and can be purchased online, or at The Bay stores around town.  For a complete list of stores or to buy online, check out their website here.

What do you think of Shoelery- by Erica Giuliani? Will your shoes be the next talk of the party?

Oh hey that's me in the Paper

You know it's Fashion Season when you're life goes from 0 to 60 in 3.5.... heh heh... But you gotta love nothing more.

After being apart of Fashion Night Out Vancouver, the most fabulous kick-off to the season, (look for coverage here and on the Social Life Magazine all next week), there is almost nothing that can top my week......

....except maybe seeing my face in the Westender Newspaper!

on line version here

A huge-mongous thank you to Kelsey Klassen from the Westender for this flawless article, and to Viranlly Liemena for the perfect photo!

The support I have received in the last year has been unremarkeable, and I thank my lucky stars everyday for the amazing opportunities that have been brought my way.

With that said, this is not the peak of Clarisky Business.... something tells me it's going to be a BIG season!!

P.S - If anyone has a paper copy of the Westender in their posession, I am almost willing to pay a small fortune for it. It has disappeared from paper boxes all over the city and I cannot seem to find one anywhere. :)

Fashion Night Out Vancouver

Hellooooo Vancouver!

September is now upon us and along with the fall weather, back to school shopping, and ecstatic parents, this month brings with it the most exciting season of all... Fashion Week Season!

This Thursday, September 6, 2012, to mark the beginning of Fashion Week Season, Vancouver is participating in its very first Fashion Night Out. FNO is an iconic shopping extravaganza celebrated all over the world. What originated in New York in 2009, as a means to support the fashion industry and restore consumer confidence after the recession, is now a global initiative participated in by over 4700 retailers.

Vancouverites are encouraged to join shoppers all over the world to celebrate a night of fashion shopping glam.  The night will launch at 5:30pm with a fashion show at CBC's Studio 40 featuring Vancouver designers such as Jason Matlo and Jacqueline Conoir, then shoppers hit the streets until 10 to take advantage of special deals, complimentary gifts, and live entertainment.

The main districts are Robson Street and Alberni Street between Burrard and Thurlow, but other participates outside of these areas are also participating. You can visit the Fashion Night Vancouver Website for more details on locations and schedules.  There will also be an after party at Bar None in Yaletown.

While all this information may be news to you, us fashionistas all over the city have been partaking in satellite events during the past few months to gear us up for this fabulous night. Take a look at some pictures below at a couple events put on by the fabulous Florence Leung of Fashion Showcase.

Style Request - Weddings

Mid August through September is prime wedding season and today's post is all about what to wear on to these special summer events.

The idea came from the following Reader Style Request:

Clarisky Business,

This time of year I am finding that all of my weekends are booked with friend's weddings.  I have the same couple of outfits and accessories on rotation, but am looking for something a little more fun and edgy without being un-classy.  Do you have any ideas for a complete wedding day look that isn't boooring?

Sincerely,
P.C

Luckily I recently attended a wedding and had a similar struggle with how to stay Clarisky in a wedding setting.  This is what I came up with.

For the Day
I kept my day outfit fun, girly and summery. I had bought this dress in a boutique in Kelowna and hadn't yet had a chance to wear it.

I wanted to keep my hair simple and polished. I tied back in a half pony-tail so that it looked put together, but not too done up.

From the front, you may have thought this looks a little conservative for Ms. Clarisky, but the back is definitely where all the fun is.  I normally would wear this bad boy with out a bandeau top, but for a wedding cereomony setting that would have been hardly appropriate.

I kept the accessories pretty simple with a grey envelope purse (H&M), pearl earrings, silver jewelry and wedge sandals.

I loved how my yellow nail polish brought such a pop of colour to the outfit.

For the Night
The evening wedding activities are where you can really jazz up your outfit. I usually refrain from wearing black at weddings, but this dress I bought at All Saints had so much character and class I thought it was the perfect contrast to my day outfit.

This dress has a hidden bustier top which provides structure and form. The straps can also be tied in various funky ways.

I funked up the dress with some sky-high Nine West wedges and a fun necklace.  I turned my same purse into a clutch, and swapped my silver jewelry for gold.

I wanted to class up my hair for the evening, so I loosely curled it with a barrel curling iron and then put it into a loose french braid.  To avoid a little rat tail I twisted the end under and through the last braid, and pinned the elastic underneath.

Hope you likey!

What do you think of my wedding outfits?  Have any comments?  If you have your own Style Request, just send an email to cgallacciodesigns@gmail.com and I will answer it on up!
