Thursday, July 04, 2013 Launch & Instagram Contest

I know it's been ages since my last post, but I have good reason, as I am ecstatic to announce that I finally took the plunge and launched my own online store,!

As a first milestone  I have launched a collection of summer Sweet Pleat Skirts in a variety of fun patterns and colours.  The idea is to offer a fun and flirty summer skirt that every girl can wear.

Pleated Skirt

If you have been a clarisky follower since the beginning, you would know that the Sweet Pleat skirt was one of my very first creations and is what initially kick started this whole shenanigan. Given its history it was only fitting that my website launch featured my original pleated creation.

The skirts are meant to be affordable and sustainable with all pieces being made in Vancouver with fabric sourced from local end-of-roll warehouses, and non-profit sales, such as Our Social Fabric.

To get everyone in the Clarisky mood we are launching an instagram contest ...

Just take a picture of yourself, or your friends in a clarisky pose, tag @Clarisky Biz and #clarisky, and then you'll be entered to win your choice of Clarisky Sweet Pleat Skirt!

Lastly, I want to thank all my early supporters, I couldn't have one it without you.

Clarisky's VV Designer Challenge Creation

As I said in yesterday's post I wanted to give a rundown on the pieces I used to create my Vous Valet Designer Challenge creation.  During the competition I grabbed as many donation pieces as I could, but turns out I ended up using the most unconventional pieces I grabbed
While I never thought I would create an outfit out of shoes and a purse, the challenge was a lot of fun and it really pushed me to design outside of my comfort zone.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to vote for the winner here, on the Vous Valet Designer Challenge facebook page, or tweet to Vous Valet at @VousValet

The Closet Revolution Launch

As I previously mentioned in my last post, I have been working on a very special project for the last month.  It took some time to put together, but I am now ready to introduce you to....

The Closet Revolution is a year long project intended to highlight personal, creative, and sustainable style as a means to raise money for troubled youth programs.

Since February 1, 2013 I have been wearing the same dress each day and have styled it in different ways using pieces from my existing closet paired with sustainable items.   I will be doing this project for an entire year, picking a new base dress every month..... 365 days, 12 dresses, 1 challenge

The rules are laid out on the project's website but the main rules are
  • I cannot buy any clothing or shoes for the entire year
  • I must wear the selected dress of the month every day
  • I may accept clothing donations as long as they are vintage, sustainable, or local
  • No label names will be advertised on the site unless they are re-purposed, sustainable, or local
It's a difficult challenge, but it has become increasingly important to me to address the issue of low self esteem in youth stemming from the belief that items purchased from "big box stores" are the only things that makes a person worth anything.  It is true that fashion can influence personal style and creative identity, but we do not need to feed into the mainstream to become human mannequins.  I wanted to do a challenge to inspire creativity, raise money for troubled youth, and showcase the alternatives to the "big box stores"

To really make this project happen I will be asking for clothing donations, as well as monetary donations throughout the year.  Local, sustainable, and re-purposed clothing items are super important as the goal is to showcase alternatives to the norm without sacrificing style.

If you have something you want to donate, or know someone who would like to contribute please click here.

I will be posting a picture everyday at so make sure to visit often

Clarisky Lock Chop

One of the many things on my bucket list has always been to cut my hair suuuper short; it was always just a sure thing that I knew was going to happen.  I didn't know when, or what would make me take the plunge, but it was accepted as a life event that was going to happen sometime or another.

January 16th came and suddenly 3 days later I had made an appointment to chop the locks!  It took me a few days to get over the shock.. but I'm pretty sure I love it now... ya I love it.

There are things to learn with every new change so here is what I've learned so far:
  1. short hair = cold head
  2. drying your hair is definitely faster, but not necessarily easier
  3. Not all boys think short hair is ugly... some actually fancy it

I have to admit that the cut is part of a larger, year long project that I will be commencing on February 1, with details to come, so stay tuned

I need to give a gigantic shout out here to Keith from Suki's on West Georgia. He made the experience so flawless and magnificent!!!  I recommend him completely!

...and here's a side view just in case you didn't think it was that short.. cause it is!
so that's all for now.. Let me know what you think of the chop

New Year's Clarisky Outfit

It's been a little while since I've had time to sew up something clarisky, but I wasn't going to let 2012 pass me by without having a clarisky ballerina moment...

... so New year's Eve eve I got out my sewing machine and went warp speed to put together a party dress to dance 2012 away.

I found this amazing string of long clear beads at VV that I'm pretty sure original came from a lamp or something, but I thought they were so pretty and I knew I could put them to good use.

The open back was a clarisky detail that in hindsight wasn't exactly suited for winter in Vancouver, but  I think it really made the dress stunning.

I made the tutu skirt removal, because unfortunately, not every moment is a tutu moment.  The dress without the tutu a much more classic yet stunning piece for a variety of occasions.

And here are some pictures from the night!

It's been a while, so let me know what you think of the dress!!

A Clarisky Year in Review

2013!  It's here!  While I may be a couple weeks late,  and have been absent through most of the last couple of months... I am starting a fresh new year with a positive outlook on all the great things to come for Clarisky Business in the new year.

2012 was filled with some of the most amazing opportunities that I couldn't have even prepared myself for.  I starting this journey a little over a year ago as a hobby and a way to display my creations, never did I think that I would get to experience all the wonderful things I have so far.

I am blessed to be able to find the time to do what I love in the midst of my busy schedule, and I really owe it to all those who have helped over the last year.  From photographers, to friends, to fellow bloggers, to helpful hands, I sincerely thank you all.

Here's a quick overview of some of the most memorable Clarisky moments of 2012.

The Clarisky Pieces of 2012

From polka peplums to rocker fringe, from sheer glam to boho fun, I played all kinds of dress up with the Clarisky pieces of 2012 and even surprised myself along the way.  The top achievement had to be having Jennyfleur Loves agree to sell Clarisky in their lovely boutique in Yaletown!

The Clarisky Travels of 2012

From the sunny coast of Cali to the freezing fields of Ireland and the fashionable streets of London! I took a fair amount of plane rides in 2012 and can't wait to explore more of the world this year.

The Events of 2012

2012 contained some pretty glamorous events that I was thrilled to be able to attend.  Meeting Mary Katrantzou at the Hudson's Bay Company's The Room, Jason Matlo's bridal show, and Fashion's Night out definitely topped the list...
... but who could forget London Fashion Week?!  not me that's for sure.  I will remember it forever and ever as one of my most memorable opportunities.

The Clarisky Features of 2012

I am still blown away by the top events in this category. Somehow, in 2012, I was featured in the Westender, Flare Magazine online, and in FASHION magazine, for simply doing what I do.

Looking back, it is clear that I had a truly amazing year.  Thank you again to everyone who helped me along the way, and I can't wait to see what 2013 has in store.
